Prep Football: Walters' touchdown run provides special moment for Warriors
A dominant defense and a speedy offense proved to be too much on Senior Night at Ratner Stadium for the Gordon Central Warriors, as they were defeated by the Rockmart Yellow Jackets 45-7.
Gordon Central (2-7, 2-4 in 7-AA) was overpowered all night on both sides of the ball by a Rockmart team that ranks No. 1 in multiple polls in Class AA.
The offense for the Warriors struggled to move the ball all night against a quick and tough Yellow Jackets defense. Quarterback Sean Gray finished the night just 3-of-12 passing with 23 yards and two interceptions. Running back Jordan Boone was the leader for the Warriors as he was able to come away with 64 total yards.
Even though the scoreboard was one-sided, Gordon Central coach TJ Hamilton said he was proud of the way the guys fought throughout the game against a highly talented Rockmart team.
“We gave up a big play to open the game, but our defense was able to make a stand on that drive. Throughout the rest of the game, our coverage was solid on the weapons from Rockmart. We missed some opportunities on the offensive side of the ball in the passing game that could have changed the game, but the effort was still there for us tonight.”
The one Gordon Central score on Friday was a very special one for Warrior Nation as team manager Jesse Walters, was able to check in and run the ball for a 75-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Walters has been a key member of the Warriors football program for his entire high school career.

Hamilton spoke about Walters and the mo-
ment that he was able to have during the game.
“He brings everything to the program,” said Hamilton. “He has been fantastic for us while he has been here so we wanted to give him a chance to put the pads on and score a touchdown for us in a real game. It was a special moment for all of us and a moment he will remember forever.”
For Rockmart (9-0, 6-0 in 7-AA) QB Javin Whatley had a big night tallying over 200 yards total offense and three TDs.
Gordon Central will finish the season at Coosa next Friday.
